Talking Watches with Wei Koh - The Paul Newman Daytona

I had the opportunity last month to actually sit down and have a talk watches session with Wei Koh where we shared our passion for watches, especially the mystical Paul Newman Daytona. Wei is a maestro for all things watches and I am just a passionate collector who loves fine and beautiful things. Two of us met in a watch exhibition and we immediately made friends ephemerally. As I did a insta story with him during that day when we first met, I was sublime by his knowledge and that deep-voiced with a knack for articulating his thoughts in graceful sentences. He's just good in his field of expertise.

Soon, I told him let's do a session on talking watches and I believe within 1 month, we started to get the cameras and started shooting. Due to his busy and hectic flight schedule, it's not always easy to catch him in person. Hence, I took the opportunity when we set a date for the shooting and the rest was history. We shared more on the rolex daytona and as you can see from the video, he's so passionate about it and he knows his facts so well that it's virtually not memorizing but rather speaking naturally from years of playing with watches. I seldom had an admiration for someone but he's just another stratosphere at this moment. Watch the full video in YouTube above and see my lousy story telling compared to his eruditely expression of watches which made these objects so alluring and mystical.

Phillips Bacs & Russo - A Splendid Conversation

Yesterday evening was great as I got to spent some time with some vintage watch connoisseurs and collectors that I admired over the years. I only got to see them on the internet and books but never in real life and hence when I got the opportunity, I went on to ask and learn as much as I can. The watches that will be auctioned off in Geneva on May are mostly superb conditions, exceptional quality and important provenance.

I spent my evening well to be able to know more about vintage watches and meeting my idols. Met up with some news faces and got to know some collectors during this cocktail session. I saw some watches that I really love and I am planning to bid on it while price is also a factor. But like what my friend told me, if the watch can speak to you and make you happy, just go for it. I think after working so hard, it's time to reward myself with a good watch. Looking forward for the auction.

Rolex Paul Newman 6239 - Auction in New York, Oct 26 2017

I am a vivid Rolex Daytona watch collector and to see this piece of 6239 exotic dial to be the main highlights of the upcoming auction in New York on Oct 26 will be an eye opener. Of course, I am not talking about the attached pieces of the watch which I am planning to purchase, but I am referring to the same piece where Paul Newman himself wore in the 1960s in the movie "Winning". I believe this watch will hit an all time record high for any single piece of Rolex Daytona and it shall set a world record for any Rolex sold.

A historic event in its own right, WINNING ICONS will offer what is without a doubt among the most important Rolex watches to ever be offered on the market: The singular, one and only Rolex “Paul Newman” Cosmograph Daytona owned and worn by none other than Paul Newman. With an absolutely superb provenance, it is the watch that inspired the legendary nickname for the most prestigious versions of Rolex’s Daytona.

For enthusiasts and scholars, it is this association with Paul Newman that has led to the Rolex Daytona being universally regarded as one of the world’s most sought after and collectible of all mechanical wristwatches.

The HONG KONG Watch Auction FOUR - Rolex and Patek Philippe

I was in Hong Kong last week when the Phillips watch auction took place in Hong Kong. There were many good and amazing watches from Rolex and Patek where I got to see many good timepieces with immaculate conditions. I am a vivid watch lover but only the Rolex Daytona and no other models. The Paul Newman Daytona has some charming, magical and appealing that made me want to buy more and more. It has that X factor that always cheer up my day whenever I look at the dial and the overall appearance of the watch. From the miniature details to the moment the watch is worn on your wrist, everything looks perfect as it maybe due to my small body frame.

The auction results was amazing. The 6263 panda cost near $700,000+ after buyers stamp duty and the 6241 due to it's poor condition was also worth about $176,000+ SGD. The other normal Daytonas also fetch high prices while the explorer II is slowing rising at the background with gradual price increment.  Meanwhile, I also saw the legendary 6263 gold Paul Newman which fetched a record high $3.722m CHF on my friend's wrist. Overall, I enjoyed my time in Hong Kong relaxing while at the same time enjoying my passion in watches. Met many new friends and future partners to be. This had been a good trip and looking forward for more in future if time permits.
